Brendan De Lacy
“Take the bull by the horns and run with it”’
This sums up Brendan’s approach to just about anything in life! There is not an opportunity that passes by that will go unnoticed or unchallenged. This get up and go attitude has seen Brendan move into some interesting roles across the globe .
After 6 years with Anglorand, Brendan and the rest of the Refinery team sold their minority equity stake in Anglorand to a Chinese consortium. It was at this point that they mutually agreed that their next move would be into something that they will own and grow 100% into something that their clients and shareholders will be proud of.
“With energy and compassion for what we do, we have no doubt in our ability to supersede expectations. We know we have a model that will be a market leader and we look forward to refining the way clients invest in the stock market. Too many people in this industry sell themselves on products, technology and costs – at Refinery we sell ourselves and our business on transparency, service and most importantly proven superior returns.”
Before Refinery, Brendan was employed at Anglorand and Global Trader and has worked on equity desks in London, namely UBS Warburg and Charles Street. Brendan has completed his regulatory capital markets exams in South Africa and the equivalent FSC exams in London. Apart from driving Refinery’s new business development, Brendan also serves as a director for a corporate finance business which he co-founded 5 years ago.
Brendan has completed 2 Comrades marathons and enjoys surfing and fishing on the weekends.
“Do something today that your future self will thank you for”
At the head of our dealing desk you will find Dan. Dan tends to approach most things in life with the same cool attitude and temperament used to manage wealth, investing and asset management. Over the past 12 years, Dan has matured into one of South Africa’s best kept trading secrets. One only has to look at the assets he manages on behalf of 2 of South Africa’s biggest hedge funds as testament to this statement. With a mathematically analytical brain, Dan can see opportunity in numbers where most cannot.
“My clients and their wealth are everything to me. I get up at 4am and study numbers and data, I look at the market all the time. I network with other traders and fund managers BUT most importantly I understand the concept of risk and how important it is to manage risk in helping Refinery clients achieve their financial goals”.
In the years leading up to Refinery, Dan was employed as an equity trader at Anglorand and Global Trader. Dan holds a B.Comm(Tax) and has completed the Financial Services Board Registered Persons exams.
Dan has just become a proud father and spends his weekends surfing, away at the bush and the odd racecourse event.
