Cape Town – Bounce News, 24.com’s personalised news app in Nigeria, has won the best news and entertainment category at the AppsAfrica.com Innovation Awards for 2017.

Bounce News is an app that allows users to customise their news and entertainment feed based on their interests. Users can get breaking news, political matters, sport, entertainment, music, fashion and health which they find relevant.

Andreij Horn, 24.com’s head, said that Bounce News was a trendsetter. “It uses advanced machine learning algorithms to uniquely personalise the content streams for each user. To achieve this, Bounce News has a strong editorial team producing a steady stream of quality news and entertainment content every day,” he said.

“At the same time the app aggregates additional local and international news to ensure it provides its users with a full content stream on the topics they’re really interested in. It’s also very light on data.”

Horn said these features made for an app that readers found useful. “And with such an abundance of content it’s also a great way of killing time. We’re proud of the Nigerian team and what they’re doing with Bounce News.”

The AppsAfrica.com Awards, currently in their third year, celebrate the best in mobile across Africa. Entries for this year’s event were received from over 31 countries for 10 categories, including Best African App, Best Social and Messaging Award, and others.

Finalists were judged by an independent panel of industry experts. The winners were announced at a ceremony at the Shimmy Beach Club in Cape Town on Monday evening.

The winners will be invited to exhibit at Africa Tech Summit Kigali over two days in February 2018. They will also have a chance to connect with tech leaders, banks, investors, governments, start-ups from across Africa and mobile network operators.
